| I may have the opportunity to put crops out on a relatives farm next year. Trying to decide what practices would be best. There is between 150 and 200 acres and it is rolling hill ground. Most of this ground has not been farmed for 20 some years. The farm has been mowed with a brushog 2-3 times per year so BIL's Dad could groundhog hunt. This year we took off one cutting of hay on about half the acreage.
Planning to pull some soil samples to get an idea of the nutrient levels. Will be going to corn and beans. My corn planter is set up with Martin row cleaners, Keeton's wtih in-row fertilizer, Martin spiked closing wheels, and drag chains. Don't really want to plow the hillsides. I have planted into sod in the past but never had great luck, but my old planter didn't have all the attachments this one has got. What would be the best way to get the ground "ready" to plant in the spring? Burn down this fall? Spring burndown? Any thoughts would be appreciated. | |
