| I know that sounds odd, but I recovered the data from my desktop drive by putting it in a freezer bag and deep freezing it for 24-48 hours. Have your rig ready to go (I put in a new main drive so I could direct copy. With your laptop you might want to get a portable usb external hard drive to copy to) and then quickly install the frozen drive. I was able to copy a whole bunch of picture files and other stuff from it. As the drive warmed up to normal temp it eventually flaked out again, but got what I needed from it.
The other trick, if freezing doesn't work is to drop it about 2 feet onto a desk. You might have to try several times. Sometimes this will unlock a stuck drive. I'd try the freezing thing first.
