How much moisture do you get annually? IMO, anything less than 15" average annual precipitation is not enough to make cover crops work. Plus, a warmer climate probably needs more than a cooler climate.

Here, where we are suppose to average around 25", but recently it's been more like 20", that's adequate moisture for cover crops. This last winter I was visiting with some farmers near Blackwell, OK, and they claimed average annual precipitation around 30-35". That seems like a great place for cover crops, plenty of growing season and good moisture.

But as you go west, and the precipitation starts dropping, it becomes more questionable.

You gotta get the moisture before you can save the moisture.
