I gave them extra feed last year, so that they would be ready to do their job. The cows too. I don't turn them out early to graze dead grass from the year before, or the 10 blades of new grass that hasn't hardened off yet & is nothing but water, I know that they will do a lot better eating silage. Feeding the cows a balanced ration that is on an increasing plain of nutrition, from weaning to post calving, so that they cycling & ready to breed at bull turn out has something to do with it too.
