produce more calves with less land and less labor. To me this means more capital and in order for more capital to come to our market we need higher prices.
We are already at record prices now!! Granted I like it but be realistic. Personally I like lower cost.
But do you ever figure what you could make on all that grassland by having it custom farmed? Or farming it yourself? Or just renting it out? Keep the worst of it, the woods and the most rolling, for pasture, and farm the rest, and feed corn silage or some other low maintenance feedstuff to run the same number of cows you do now. Maybe it wouldn't work, but it might work better. |
