Subject: RE: What is a family farm

Saskatchewan, big whitetail country!!!

We are all going to have a differing take on it. I think it is a farm run by only family, and a farm that HAS BEEN IN THE FAMILY for more than a single generation. Not that first gen farms are not family farms, I just think a piece of land with the same name  on it for a hundred years has more oomph.

I mean, I have neighbors who farm a fair pile of land. It is just never enough. If one was to stop in at the farm, you may have to bump into and ask three or four guys where Barry is, before you find anyone who actually is family and has a stake in the place. Then when you find Barry, he is parked on the road with his I pad, barking orders into his cell phone, while 6 combines rip around the field. Which brings me to my next point: If the farm in question has an owner who is never to be seen doing actual work, one who never takes part in the actual machinery, sweeps out bins, hauls grain, or digs in the dirt, it is IMO, probably NOT a family farm.
