Subject: Calving in below zero weather question.

Baldwin City, KS
Our cows are calving right along and we're in for some record lows for this time of year. Noaa shows below zero with plenty of wind and snow. I don't have a barn to calve in, just some decent windbreaks and bedding. I plan to be checking very frequently. My question: in -4 with 25-30 mph wind, will a new calf even have a chance of taking off? Should I let the cow have a shot at it, or just dry him off myself and warm him up to start with? I hate messing with them if I don't have too, but this storm is shaping up to be brutal. Just wanted a few thoughts on dealing with it. Thanks.
