With the extremely cold temperatures for so long this winter the silage has frozen really hard this year. Last year was an easy winter & there might have been 3 or 4 inches of frost on the piles. The moisture is within 0.25% of last year's & the PH is 4 instead of 4.75, but it still froze hard, a good 18".
Most of the snow has blown off the top of the pile so there isn't much insulation to stop the frost.
It's all blown off to the edge of the pile on the south side against the bush. 3' deep here & not frozen at all. |
