Central Illinois | This fall our long time hired hand was running our auger cart (no gps), with my father in the combine, starts to veer to the left then started cutting across the field. After about 15 seconds my father not sure what is happening having already shut the auger off, pulls out to follow him as fast as the combine would go. When he gets along side he sees that he is asleep or dead. My dad tries calling him...slight movement...obviously not dead, 20 or 30 seconds pass he is half way across our field heading towards a neighbors unharvest field and then the road and then the creek. My father is running scenarios through his head and contemplating getting ahead of it with the combine if he gets near the road and trying to stop the tractor when he wakes, veers back on towards our field as if nothing happened. My dad told him he was done for the day and that he was not to drive home but instead go to sleep in his car. Of course he just drove home, luckily he only lives about 3 miles away. | |
