Subject: Re: snow in the sunny south

Faunsdale, AL
Just getting started with snow here. Started with freezing rain, then sleet and now snow. Ground was not cold enough that everything was melting, so a slushy mess. It's below freezing, so at some point it wll start freezing and get really slick. Milk truck picked up yesterday, so as long as we can keep the conveyers going we use to put silage in the mixer truck, we will be fine.

We are on the 1-2" band the weather guys have been predicting and it will truly bring everything to a halt. At least the power should stay on since the rain only lasted a little while. .

As others have pointed out, except for counties in North Alabama, no mechanized sanding trucks etc, just shovels, so the county will just expect everyone to stay off the roads instead of doing anything to keep them passable. US 80 and I-20/59 probably will get the bridges sanded. The first freezing rain and sleet caused a lot of wrecks on I-65 between Birmingham and Montgomery this morning. All the predictions were for most of that to be south of Montgomery instead of north and later in the day.

Schools one county north of here were open, but sent kids back home at 9:30. Homeschool has convened as normal! 9 yr old has been through and outside for a little while now and second youngest (12 yr old) has just finished and is suiting up! High schooler is left inside paying for not keeping up with the lesson schedule all fall.............
