Subject: RE: ground wire?

S.E. LA.
Ground Wire: Several companies make quality ground wire, it should be double insulated, 12 1/2 ga/galv. One company offers a wire with alumn. coating it is three times as conductive as the regular wires. For your 6 Joule unit three 6' x 5/8" galv rods should work for you.(It may take more) They need to be spaced six feet apart from each other, leave about 6" out the ground so that you can see them and not run over them with the lawn mower or tractor. These rods should be placed in a moist area under the fence wire or along the drip line of a building (animals need to be excluded from this area.) These wires are designed to be direct buried however placing them in conduit, offers more protection from damage. Your energizer maker should have a set of instructions to test your ground system after it is installed. If your energizer is located a distance from the fence I would suggest that you use two conduits, one for hot leg and one for Grd. leg. Also install what ever lighting protection that your energizer requires so that the system will be covered under warranty, also use a surge protector in the 110vac outlet to also protect from surges in the electrical system, due to lightning. If you have any other questions please post. Good luck and Good grazing
