Subject: RE: Operator control instinct

I can prove myself a completely inept total fool in under 5 minutes on a joystick operated shovel, backhoe, or crane. A couple years back, I took one of the laughingboys to a show with me, and let him demonstrate his skill level on a Northwest. I even started the old girl for him.
What machinery manufacturers haven't caught onto is ergonamics. The same entertaining situation would exist if car manufacturers hadn't standardised on the essential controls. Watch a man who has driven a Chevy pickup for 10 years try getting the door open on a Ford pickup.
Another factor is that farmers really don't spend sufficient time on any particular machine for the operation to become totally automatic.
