NE CO | Advances in no-till planters won't save the day for lots of CRP acres in my area. Low average rainfall, steep slopes and exposed hilltops are vulnerable to wind and water erosion, even with the best no-till farming. In fact when these grasslands were broken out of sod, many of the hilltops and slopes only had a few inches of topsoil covering them. If mother nature can't keep soil in place on these fields, I'm afraid that any modern no-till cropping system won't have any better chance, and unfortunately, probably a lot less. | |
