| Let me start by saying I have no idea how many acres this may pertain to as a percentage to the whole, but around here most of the land was put into CRP before the huge advances in notill planters. Almost all of the CRP ground here is HEL, and if one had to plow, disk, mulch, etc to get a seed bed ready I can easily understand why they put it in CRP mainly from an erosion standpoint. I believe erosion control was the main driving factor for CRP around here and with notill planter advances that should generally be a non-issue.
I believe around here one can easily notill CRP and generally get a good economic return for their investment at these prices. If prices stay at this level, I do not think many acres will get re-enrolled when the contracts are up, and I do not see why we could not produce a crop this year if the government suddenly opens up the program. | |
