Coal is going to be a big player in getting us toward energy independence. They have made great strides in getting coal fired plants cleaned up. Coal gasification plants are on the drawing boards now, and the first one is already being built in northern Illinois. These plants will produce fuel and have the potential to make NH3 as a by-product. They will also be using mass quantities of soybeans and-or canola for oil that will be added as a lubricant to the fuel that is produced. The fuel produced from these plants will not have the burden of having a short shelf life like what we are using now. Think of how valuable that would be. This means we will be able to stockpile it. The military (DOD) has a standing order for this type of fuel, and you can imagine why. With all the ethanol plants going up and now this, it is making things look pretty exciting as crop producers.
