Subject: RE: Securing Sliding Barn Doors

Alton, Ia
Well, the first thing I would do is kick the guy in the .... who made it too short. More than once. That really pisses me off when contractors do sloppy work, then patch it somehow that everybody knows will not last. And then they say, well it should last a few years, which is good enough. At which point I reply, I'm giving you money you'll keep forever, you need to do work likewise....

Anyway, I thought about fashioning a Z type piece, vertical leg on the door front, horizontal back to your embedded angle iron, then down. But since your horizontal length varies, that isn't good.

If you drop the doors enough to catch the angle, will the 1" vs 2" cause an issue? If not, I would drop the doors, and put something on top to close it up. A simple green treated furring strip may suffice. Then you may have to find some heavy wall 1" x 1" tubing, and weld it to angle front, or do a rubber flap on the door to compensate for the difference.

How often is the door used?
