Southern MN | I have planted my corn end rows last. I notilled my corn seed into the previous years long bean rows. Then I took the field cultivator to the end rows to rip up any compaction, and then planted my end rows last. I had gaps and overlaps of my end rows and main rows by a good foot in places, but I had no tire marks over my end rows. This was done without autosteer. I think if you had autosteer and could replant your endrows in the same spot each year, you would have better luck than I did with overlaps and gaps. Overall I think better crops on the 5%-10% of your field that is end rows, but the tradeoff is that it takes more work, more attention to detail. Technology should make this easier to do in the future. | |
