Yes its ammonium nitrogen so its a stable cation. It will turn to nitrate quicker than NH3 because NH3 kills the bacteria at the injection point but it is still ammonium nitrogen and will not volatilize either. As far as rate I've seen good results from strip banded AMS at 100lbs per acre, broadcast I would think would take 2-3X that to get a similar response. Of course I'm banding NH3 + DAP (or MAP) + Potash + AMS so I'm not looking at just the benefit of the AMS. Haven't done many side by sides with and without but seem to get beautiful looking corn with this program.
