EC Nebraska | Excess Sulfur leaching through the soil profile can take a lot of cations with it. That's why people use high rates of gypsum to leach out Mg. The most water soluble compound leach first, but it's possible to wreck ground with too much sulfur. How much is too much depends on your soils and your water. I probably wouldn't go over 500 lb/acre unless I was trying to leach out something, but just 100 lb/acre will likely give you a good yield boost if you've not applied sulfur in years. Do some strips: 100, 250, 400 lb/acre. See what works for your ground and your operation. | |
