Subject: Re: Pioneer compliance and Monsanto RR1 post patent

haymaker - 3/7/2013 13:23 In the early days of RR soybeans Pioneer had bought from Monsanto for a mere $500,000 the rights to use the RR 1 gene forever. But when DuPont came in and acquired Pioneer that negated the $500 K deal. Otherwise Pioneer could either have made a fortune from tech fees or it could have passed the savings on to its customers or maybe even some of both, but it never happened. In my opinion Pioneer was a much better company before DuPont took it over.

You are right, Pioneer was much better before Dupont.  A very strong brand name, and
one of the best known in all of agriculture.
Then Dupont was so insecure, they have rebranded the company as Dupont, Pioneer.
A very poor decision in my mind.
I would like someone to tell me what that was all about.

Adding Dupont to the brand was not a positive.  Recently, Pioneer has been a profit center
for Dupont with the economic downturn, in paints and chemicals, so it seems they want to
change that.
