You could sow the seed then put up a poly wire and only let them to a small area where they will work the ground enough to get the seed in. Maybe only a few hours and then pull them off and if you can dont let them back on until the grass can stand the traffic. Do you have a seeder that you put around your neck. If not I would get one and it will have a chart on it as to how to set it and how much you will put per acre. You could sow rye grass now and to tell you the truth fall is the best time to sow seed because it gets enough root to it to withstand dry weather when it hits. If you have bare spots I would sow now though. They have pasture mixes of seed and you could use that. You are shooting for a salad bowl effect anyway with grass.
