Ive heard of the tail switch being an indicator but not the tail head. If its curly then its a bull and straight or slightly wavy is a heifer. Ive watched mine in years past and for the most part it holds true. There are some cows that are right in between curly and wavy which is hard to tell for me. I just write the cow number down and what i think she may have then check to see if i was right when the calf is on the ground.
