Ours doesn't drain in the septic tank either. It's plumbed into a floor drain too. Are you sure the sodium goes out in the rinse water? I thought the softened water held onto a lot of it? That's one reason you shouldn't drink it...just use it for showers, washing clothes, dishes...and laundry.

...I don't think that's too much salt if you have 4-5 people in the house. I figure on about a ton..or just a little more per year....
