SW Manitoba
We have been fattening around 800 a year until this year (got scared). We fed some halfblood angus cross calves and were 4-5% lower on yeild. 850 lb carcass x .04=34lbs. X 2.10 we were getting at the time =$71.4 less pr head. Ouch. Just our experience, and I realize we are giving up some good characteristics too.

The feeder is 3.5 inch drill stem cemented in the ground with 2 3/8 welded in between with 16ga galvanized sheet metal at the bottom. The feeder hole is 18 inches I think and the feed side is roughly 12" higher than where they stand. (Until it builds up with snow and manure)
