Sac & Story county IA | I don't like 7018AC. I can do way better with 7018 and DC. The Lincoln buzz box with DC is not as good as a good shop welder. Or the Lincoln engine welder with the one cylinder engine does not make good electricity. The old Lincoln motor generator or engine driven are great. Stable arc or SAE models.
7018 rods are not easy to weld with. If I am doing a vertical up weld in an out of position place, I may stick the rod 10 times before it starts. On top of an elevator, that stinks and gets my temper. That is after a lot of years of using them.
The best thing about a properly applied 7018, if you need to drill or tap threads into the bead, no problem. Way less of a heat affected zone.
The super rods must have some nickel in them. They aren't machinable or don't cut with torch. But they are strong and will bond dissimilar metals, to a point. | |
