Carbon fiber is incredibly strong and light when laid up correctly, but to get the full benefit of it requires the use of vacuum bagging, or you will have too much resin in the mix. Carbon fibers are a little harder to cut neatly and since they are so light they tend to float in the resin, hence the need for a bag to get a nice neat finish.
