Wallis, TX
Economics,
6ac to a cow, $25 ac rent, $100 worth of bought hay and you can keep a cow for $250/year. The cows poop out some fertilizer, been going on like that for decades

Put that 6 ac in improved pasture, costs $150-200. plus, you lose the production for a year while the grass is getting established. Then you get to put $100-150/ac fertilizer on every year, cut some acres for hay (to make it thru dry spell and winter) $50/ac average for baling, plus $150 rent. So you get to spend $1050-1350 to keep 3 to 4 cows on 6 acres. With irrigation you could go to 6 cows but you'd have the cost of irrigation to figure in and you still would only be equal to the first example at best.
