Downtown Shell Knob MO Come Visit!
The old cowman is not the new cowman. The new age cow man is more like a BTO than you realize. They don't buy many supplies and they don't buy any inputs and they try to rent alot of ground cheap. Your comparing an old cattleman to a new age farmer. So ill do the opposite. A good farmer buys his seed and his spray and pickup in town and has a lot of little but needed equipment because he grows corn and soybeans and alfalfa and wheat and oats and barley , and he feeds cattle and feeds hogs, and has a silage pit and grows some sweet corn, and makes his feed but buys premix and supplies locally and spreads his own manure and uses the local elevator to sell his beans, and sells his livestock at the local barn. And he always thinks about saving money but never has the time to cut corners or decrease overhead.
And the modern day cattlemen drives around in a new pickup and checks cows and trys to find cheap hay or cheap ground to put up cheap hay on and he has his mineral hauled in a box truck and he retains ownership on his cows, and he doesn't spend any money in town because the name of the game is make money by saving it. How else is he going to make his new truck and trailer payment. Apples to Oranges.
