Faunsdale, AL | If there's a pipe thread plug, it would be an older model tractor, late 1940's. Most of what you see have a small cover on top of the pony pinion clutch that is held on by a couple of bolts so you can get into it to adjust the clutch a lot easier than the pipe plug type. If you need more access, you can take the operating lever off pretty easily. Nothing is going to come flying out if you unbolt the plate and then you have 2 access holes to work through. The next stage is to take the whole housing off the pinion and expose that all completely.
Probably more common than clutch problems is pinion latch problems on the other end. There are 4 very short bolts that hold it together that sometimes fall out. That almost always has to be fixed by pulling the whole pinion assembly (lift pony motor etc). | |
