Subject: CAT pony motor/diesel starting problem

Northern CA
Hi - I am not very knowledgable about Cats, but I have a problem with an old D6 9U. I just bought it from a neighbor and it has started fine. A guy called me and wanted to buy it, and I told him he could go look at it. He said that it started up fine, he shut it down and went to restart it and it wouldn't start. I went to start it today, and the lever that I push forward to engage a clutch, I think, so that the pony motor turns the big motor over, doesn't do anything. The level doesn't feel like it pushes as far as it used to push. The pony runs fine, the lever that engages the gears - high / low speed, seems to do what it should, but I can never get the pony motor to go under a load or turn the big motor at all. What do I look for?
