John, I think in your day whole life was ok, but nowadays I think it is way too expensive to get enough of it to make a difference when you really need it (young and in debt with kids). To me, you only need life insurance at that time.
Now that our children are pretty much gone, once we get the mortgage paid off, I don't know that we need much of any life insurance.
