Subject: Re: question about feeding corn....

western iowa,by Denison
have notice sometimes calves go off feed with the wet bucket method,we use to soak corn in 4-h when showing calves, seemed to help, but that being said my experience feeding calves with crack corn is about a 2-4% feed advantage, and about a 1% better yield and a better grade on the cattle-have bought and sold roller mills for 30 years-a small roller mill with a 1hp electric motor runs about 2-$400-couldn't begin to fill 800 buckets of corn a day here with water- but my 12inch roller mill with 2hp electric motor has rolled 150,000 bushel of corn flawlessly, back in 4-h I had a manual cracker and rolled corn by hand-worked good-I added liquid molasses with it in a box then mixed it with a shovel-had 8 cattle I did this for-1 got 3rd place at the Crawford County fair in rate of gain-had a 1/8 holstein in him.Do a internet search, there is some small roller mills out there! You could also roll a couple weeks of corn ahead also!
Use to also soak corn with beer back in the day-easier to just get glutten now!
