Subject: Re: my rant of the day

Some stories abut old farm families in this area. 1930's, Sheriff sale at court house, man bidding, dressed in old torn clothes, patches sown on jacket. Auctioneer stopped the sale twice and asked the man if he knew how much money the bid was and if he could pay for it, man would nod his head yes. He was high bidder and they asked how he would pay for it. He walked up to the Sheriff, ripped one patch off and produced a fist full of cash, and said there is enough in this coat to pay for the farm. They went inside and counted money. The family now owns a few thousand acres. Another Sheriff sale, result of the 1980's land buying boom. The father, bought a farm for 800,000 ,went in side and wrote a check for the full amount. The Insurance company lawyer would not take a personal check for the full amount but would take one for 100,000 for payment on the contract. Farmer got mad and was insulted that they questioned financial integrity. Tempers flared and the son asked would they take a certified check. They said yes, son replied we will be back with one in 15 minutes. Went to local bank, came back with certified check, laid it down, said, since you don't trust us, why should we trust you, we want our deed now. The deed was written that day. The present generation of this family has a large operation and he and his sons are very good farmers. Both of the families were Depression era farmers that started with little and were self made and thrifty, and they still drive old pickup trucks and buy late model used equipment.
