Does anyone remember "counter checks" @ local businesses, like local implement dealers? There would be a checkbook laying on the parts counter and you, or anyone, could write a check at that local bank if you had money in that bank. The checks were generic & the only thing required was your signature on the check. No i.d. was required....in fact, who in the world had any i.d. back then w/their photo on it?
