Chilliwack BC
Dairy cows are always on concrete.
The concrete sometimes has a smoother finish than it should.
Dairy cows can get milk fever.
A fresh cow with a large bag can have a hard time keeping her rear legs directly under her.

Hip clamps work if she is just having a hard time getting up, but she needs a good bedding pack to keep from slipping when up. A vet once said if you slaughtered a cow after using them and saw the bruising, you would never use them again.

We also have a "down cow board" like ccjersey. Ours is 1" plywood with a 4x4 bulkhead to attach a chain to. Pallet forks can scoop under it and you can carry a downer on it to a good pen.
