Subject: Re: bottle feeding colostrum

North Central Kansas
When I was a kid growing up dad always used a pop bottle. He would rub the top of their mouth and put the bottle in their mouth to force it down them. When I first got back into cattle I bought a tuber. Killed the first one I tried it on. Haven't killed one since. Sheep Herder's directions are right on. Just take your time. I always start with a little and then go from there. I have tubed 5 calves so far this year. Most of them just needed an extra boost after they were born. One mama was trying to claim another calf and didn't want to let him suck. He got tubed with Colostryx and a round of milk replacer before mama came to her senses. I also use Nutri Drench on weak calves to give them a boost. I get it from Valley Vet. It is Dairy Drench. Learned that on here last year from MarkWright. It has helped me save several calves. Last year I had lost 5 calves by this time. So far this year I am at 100%. Hope it continues.
