I used plastic for 10 years.  Cussed a couple times a year.  Then someone said go SS and I've never looked back.  Wore out several bottles and last year I had to remove the plastic tube from an unused set and insert my stainless one because the little piece of hose started to leak and I was too cheap to buy a new stainless set.  It's like you said though, what ever you're happy with.
