Western Iowa Manning | I had a really nice 1st calf heifer calve early this morning. She had about a 75lb heifer calf unassisted and it is a little go getter that knows just where to go and what to do as far as nursing. The problem is that I don't think she is milking much, if at all, and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to get her to start milking. I watched the calf nurse and nurse, switch quarters, nurse, butt the bag and so on and she never filled out properly in the belly and still acted hungery. So I mixed her 2 pints of milk replacer and fed her. That warm milk really got her excited and she went back to nursing mom. I am hopeing this will stimulate her to drop milk. If anyone has any suggestions or advise it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! | |
