Michigan - Saginaw County | Along with what has been said, seriously consider strip till...
You and I are in the same boat... Approx 100 tillable acres, some has been in C-SB rotation (I just bought it) and some was fallow for 10 years - and part of that was donkey pasture :)
With no tillage machinery on hand I went through all the scenarios, talked to a dozen local farmers, talked to used equipment dealers (each one had "just" what I needed on hand and since I was starting out they could give me 'deal' )
I was told everything from no-till to moldboard plow...
My decision was old tractors, nd old sprayer, and an old disc chisel to break up the sod initially, and a new Bigham Brothers 4 row strip till ($17.6K)...
Right, wrong, or indifferent that is my solution..
I just picked up a 6 row JD7000 (couldn't find a 4 row that wasn't beat to death) I am going to add liquid starter, upgrade to Precision meters and no till coulters...
So, the only tillage tool I spent real money on is the new strip tiller... Couldn't find a used one that 1. my 1086 tractor could pull (the biggest issue) 2. I could afford 3. if it was in my price range it was beaten to death...
