Paul, one of the nice things about running an Aerway in the fall is that much of the residue gets pinned down, and doesn't blow. Most roots still in the ground. The Aerway doesnt cut much of anything into little pieces but works on what I call the "Greywolf effect" (for Bruce) - get the residue in contact with the soil in the fall and let the microbes do their thing.
