Its hard to give you much advice on your question on irrigating or not without knowing your dirt. If you can noticeably see that your beans are suffering yield loss from lack of water I would soak em ! You may not be able to run 6 mph when you combine them but at least there will not be BB's in the pods or no pods....
Do you have taper nozzles in you gun? If so maybe try a nozzle that take washers...they break up the spray pattern much better and dont tend to smash them as hard.
