You are 100% correct. I know Monsanto is breeding new hybrids for higher and higher populations. I wonder why? They will deny it but I'm sure selling more seed is a major reason why. Our DSM is talking about dropping 40,000 + in the not to distant future. In a perfect environment sure they might yield more but we when we have poor emergence, high winds,etc. the yield advantage disappears quickly. Our farms favorite hybrid DeKalb 52-59(it's been around for 5 years) has great ear flex and spanked every new Smartstack we planted last year. Why plant a new more costly hybrid at 10% heavier population only to have it yield the same or less as a hybrid that has ear flex?
