there are big areas of MB that are basically cereal-canola-cereal-canola ..... rotation for years. As soon as you get North and West out of the Red River valley, that is very common. I keep thinking that we're going to see a major disease problem with that rotation but haven't heard much yet. The Peace Country in AB and the Swan River valley in MB have probably had the canola every 2nd year rotation the longest and every time I ask chem reps/agronomists about it, they say the areas aren't seeing disease issues yet.
I wouldn't hesitate to do the canola/summerfallow/canola rotation. I would think that some tillage in the summerfallow year won't make the disease any worse.
