nw iowa | most here in nw iowa do sample but usually don't variable rate apply as they usually have to supplement with another form of fertilizer,ie dry,map,or 28 or 32% liquid to get enough total. probably depends on the fertilizer value of the litter/compost you get.most all is applied in the fall here.testing your manure/litter sample is the only way to tell what youre getting.not sure how many grid sample but would guess with the past high cost of fertilizer most do.you can use the grid samples for lime and other variable apps too that way.most around here get chicken compost from rembrandt enterprises which is a big layer operation co-owned by glen taylor from the twin cities,also owns the timberwolves pro BB team.he has bought up a lot of land all over around here and other places i've heard.
