NW Washington
Where is he at? If he is based on a Navy ship he will have access to a lot of common snacks and toiletry items and probably a shower every day. If he is based on land somewhere at some primitive base, then he will have different needs. He probably won't have access to refrigeration and it may be hot, so no candy an stuff that will melt in the heat. Jerky is always a good idea. Coffee or tea might be good too. Books or magazines. Music. Also, his specialty in the Marines makes difference too. Grunts packing a rifle have different needs than aircraft mechanics.

You can get free "Flat rate" boxes at the post office which you can ship priority mail for a flat fee which are a good deal. It is a little over $10 for a medium Flat Rate box that it about 11"x8.5"x5" deep. This flat fee includes FPO and APO addresses. As mentioned if he is based in another country you have to fill out customs form when you mail package. It is a good idea to get some forms to take home and fill out before you get to the PO.
