SW Saskatchewan | Though I have never been a poultry producer I at one time was connected to the Govt Board that oversaw the Producer Marketing Boards with supply management powers here in Sask.
As you are no doubt aware, their are many further long days and night ahead of you. The returns for poultry in Canada have been an order of magnitude higher than in the US, but on average there has been little difference in consumer price.
There have been many cross border disputes over dumping and I know both countries have indulged in it a few times rather than depress their home market.
I am not and never have been a socialist( I doubt if you are either) but it was clearly an eye-opening experience to view the money that is on the table to grab- if the farmer doesn't take it , it sure doesn't get left there for Santa Claus to distribute.
As Hay Wilson mentions, it is easy for Co-ops to lose their focus but it happens in private companies too, difference they get bought out, co-ops seem to lose money but the faithful who believe but are to lazy to participate continue to contribute to an organization that should be put out of its misery.
