They do it to justify their existence to the ones that pay the bills.

I have long maintained that if the checkoff money was being spent wisely, I would never see one of their ads. I am not the target market. Money spent on advertising to me is money wasted. The advertising needs to be targeted to folks who know nothing about farming.
