just a tish NE of central ND
Im not much help on the jet... but,If you have an interest in it go for it if the price is right.. You might be surprised who much you use it. Seems if you monkey around with pins and bushings and such on wagon steering and axles, loaders'bearings and spacers and makeing parts like where you center drill out holes for grease zerks.... you can find a use for them. Maybe move on to threading later on.You may desire something a bit bigger later on. Most important is learning how to get the tooling sharpened up and shaped properly so you dont get disgusted with it.Make sure you get something with a quick change gearbox rather than individual change gears if you can. It makes life much simpler. I have much to learn yet and sure could use practice just to learn more.
My machine..... 1939 atlas...I saved enough $$ on converting my old air seeder to the new style axle pivot bushings (made bushing adapters on the Lathe)to pay for the investment 3 or 4 times over in one day.
Check out the tubalcain(spell) U tube videos ... I believe they can be found by searching for tubalcain vidieos. There are some "NO BS" videos on tool sharpening and turning.... Very informative.
Good luck.
