Subject: row spacings for wheat. Response to grass farmer

Eastern Australia
A number of years ago, I changed our row spacing's from 10" to 13/13", to get better plant water use efficiency (PWUE) as a result of our dry environment. We have had no reduction in yield at all, in fact have seen an increase. You do have to be a little careful if you go wider to decrease your seeding rate, as plant numbers per row can become too high. Wider rows have allowed me to retain all our stubble and sow inter row, which is helping us to retain moisture over the summer and put organic matter back into the soil.
