You didn't mention if it has been warm or unusually cool. Lots of times genetics as mentioned in the other posts can cause this but can be amplified by cool weather. Purpling can sometimes be found in corn that is planted behind certain other crops. We see it here when we have cool early growing conditions on corn planted behind sugar beets. It will grow out of it and is hard to say if there will be a yield drag. It will stunt the growth compared to corn that doesn't turn purple. If the new growth is green, you will probably never know any dif.
